According to the Kentucky Heritage Council's site, the Ida Lee Willis Memorial Foundation is Kentucky’s most distinguished celebration of historic preservation excellence. The awards are named for Kentucky’s first state historic preservation officer, and are given for the protection, preservation, and rehabilitation of historic buildings, cultural resources, and archaeological sites. The Shelby Preservation Group won for their preservation project for the Shoppes at Blue Gables. The award reads: "In recognition of local residents who formed a nonprofit to address the deterioration of a historic 1939 motel, one of Main Street's most visible buildings, for securing a federal grant, investors, and donations to purchase the property and fund rehabilitation; and for transforming a site that had long attracted undesirable attention into a beautiful retail space for small businesses, once again generating economic returns and a sense of community pride; this award is presented to Shelbyville Preservation Group for The Shoppes at Blue Gables".
Congratulations to the Shelby Preservation Group and their wonderful work!
